Abstract Introduction In practice, the diagnosis of certain oral lesions must be made by biopsy. A biopsy constitutes an essential diagnostic tool in application to patients with oral pathology. However oral biopsy is not routinely performed in general dental practice. The present study aimed to explore the attitudes of General Dental Practitioners toward oral biopsy for diagnosis of oral lesions in Vadodara city, Gujarat, India. Methodology A questionnaire was distributed to 200 general dental practitioners. Results Our study showed that 73% of the GDPs do not perform a biopsy on their own. Conclusion There is a need for better education and training of GDPs to perform oral biopsy procedures on their own and create awareness among them about the proper referral of the specimen to oral histopathological centers.

Abstract Introduction The aim of the study was to compare different impression techniques used for fixed prosthodontics. Methodology A master cast with prepared abutments was created from polymethyl-methacrylate and evaluated against a virtual reference model. Results The monophasic and one-step putty-wash techniques showed smaller deviations than the two-step techniques in several measurements. Conclusion The industrial scanner comparison supported measurable differences among the tested impression techniques.

Dental Materials: Comparative evaluation of the relationship of teeth color and soft tissue color of the face in individuals with natural dentition

Derya Ortac, Mehmet Sonugelen, Muharrem Erhan Comlekoglu

Doi

HTML | PDF | XML

Abstract Introduction The aim of this study is to make it easier for dentists to choose artificial tooth color in fully and partially edentulous patients by evaluating the relationship between the color of the soft tissues of the face and the color of the teeth. Methodology Tooth, skin, lip and eye colors were measured and analyzed using CIEL*a*b* values. Results Higher correlations were observed between tooth lightness and several facial color values. Conclusion Skin and lip color parameters may support tooth color selection in clinical practice.

Abstract Introduction The study assessed the effects of cleft lip and palate on temporomandibular joint components using cone-beam computed tomography. Methodology Twenty CBCT scans from unilateral CLP patients were compared with twenty non-CLP controls. Results Several condylar and articular measurements differed significantly between groups. Conclusion CLP was associated with relevant TMJ morphological differences visible on CBCT.

Abstract Introduction The study evaluated the duration of adaptation to new complete dentures and changes over five years based on patient self-reported outcomes. Methodology Sixty fully edentulous patients completed repeated questionnaires after denture delivery and during long-term follow-up. Results Speech, chewing, comfort, retention and esthetics improved early, then some measures declined over time. Conclusion Adaptation peaked early, while longer-term outcomes varied depending on the function assessed.

Restorative Dentistry: Dentin degradomics in dentin erosion

Gunce Ozan, Meric Berkman, Hande Sar Sankakli

Doi

https://doi.org/10.25241/stomaeduj.2022.9(1).art.6

Abstract Background Dentin degradomics refers to endogenous dentin enzymes involved in organic matrix breakdown. Objective This review described their mechanisms, relation to dentin erosion, and approaches for inhibition. Data sources A narrative review was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar. Conclusion Current evidence supports a significant role for degradomic activity in dentin erosion and highlights the importance of inhibition strategies.
